The Wallonian Citizens’ Panel

The Foundation for Future Generations has invited 45 citizens to participate to a real citizen adventure. From September to December 2006, they will take part to a citizens’ panel about

The role and the future of rural territories in tomorrow’s Wallonia ?

The Countryside: A Citizen challenge

The rural regions represent about 90% of the European territory and 50% of its population. They produce food and employment, present a broad variety of landscapes, contribute to the biodiversity, ensure a balance in the nature (reload of ground water, water purification, production of renewable energy, etc.), include important places of culture, leisure …

These regions are vital for the all citizens in Wallonia as in Europe.

For this reason, nine European regions have decided to implement a bottom-up consultation dynamic. The initiative aims to create a mechanism that will enable European citizens to draw up and disseminate proposals on the future of rural areas in Europe, based on comprehensive and unbiased information provided by decision-makers, experts and stakeholders.
